Funeral services for William Leese, 70, resident of Big Rock for 40 years, were held June 20, in Durant. The Rev. Richard Anderson of St. Paul's Episcopal church officiated, and Max Lauser was vocalist.
Casket bearers were Henry Steinke, Louis Ewoldt, Merlyn Meyer, Kenneth Rorick, William Petersen and Elmer Makoben. Burial was in the Durant cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the grave by the Wheatland American Legion Post.
Mr. Leese died at the Veterans hospital in Iowa City June 17 following an extended illness.
He was born May 31, 1894 near Sunbury, the son of John and Caroline Leese. On June 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Frieda Meuser in Davenport. He was a Veteran of World War I and a member of the Wheatland American Legion Post.
Survivors include the wife; 3 sons, Ray., McCausland; John and Delmar, Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Doris Ann) Reed, Lynchburg, Ohio; his father, John Leese, Durant; 2 brothers, Leonard and Alvin Leese, Durant; 3 sisters, Mrs. Johannes (Minnie) Jurgens and Mrs. Harry (Lena) Bailey, both of Davenport, and Mrs. Frank (Ella) Feldhahn, Durant.
