John H. Whitaker, the Davenport capitalist, was drowned in Lake Michigan, according to dispatches which have just been received by relatives in that city. While suffering from an attack of mental aberration Mr. Whitaker jumped overboard from the steamer Manitou, en route to Harbor Springs. The body has not been recovered.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Aug. 18, 1840 and died Aug. 13, 1913. He is buried in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
