EASTERN Iowa is all excited over the murder of Dan Gilbert at Davenport by his son-in-law, Gustav Neibert, who a short time ago married one of Gilbert's daughters.
The crime took place after a family conference in the Neibert home, attended by the young man and his bride, the murdered man and a Catholic priest, who was there to prevent violence.
The quarrel came about over an alleged confession that Gilbert had been improperly intimate with his daughters when they lived in Iowa City, and this so enraged the young husband that he drew his revolver and fired. As all are prominent, there is no end to the excitement over this event.
Neibert has many friends who sympathize with him and he has been released on $5,000 bonds. His trial is expected to come up at the next term of court. His bride is prostrated over the affair.
