William Dougherty, father of ex-Sheriff William E. Dougherty of this city, and one of Scott county's pioneers, passed away Friday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Hogan, 1204 Gaines street, Davenport. The Davenport Democrat says of the deceased:
During the 75 years that Mr. Dougherty was located in this vicinity, he made a lot of friends who will join with the family in mourning their loss. He was a man who was known by his honest dealings at all times, by his integrity, sincerity and frankness in connection in all relations with fellow beings. As a farmer he had gained the reputation of being one of the most successful, as well as systematic agriculturists in the county and was an excellent manager.

The deceased was born in Tipperary county, Ireland, May 15, 1838, and emigrated with his parents to New York state when he was but eight years old. In 1851 the family removed to Davenport, purchasing a farm a short distance from the city. When he had attained the age of 20 he operated a large farm successfully and conducted it until 1888, when he moved to the city. He was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Kelly Oct. 18, 1860. Of the ten children with which the Lord had blessed their home seven are still living, they are William Dougherty of Clinton, candidate for sheriff of Clinton county, John Dougherty, Mrs. M. Reidy, Mrs. E. J. Hogan, widow of the late E. J. Hogan, well known railroad contractor, Mrs. J. O'Brien, and two daughters who are Sisters of Charity Sister Mary Magdelen of Chicago and Sister Mary William of Rock Island. He had twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. With his wife he had planned to celebrate his fifty-sixth wedding anniversary Oct. 8, 1916.

The funeral will be held from the home of the daughter, Mrs. E. J. Hogan, 1204 Gaines street, Monday morning with a requiem high mass at 8:30 o'clock at Holy Family church.
