OBITUARY.
Gilliland
The death of W.W. Gilliland occurred yesterday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J.L. Manker[sic], 1936 Grand avenue, cystilis being the fatal malady. Judge Gilliland was 84 years of age, and had a career of great prominence as a jurist and an attorney. He was born at Red Oak, Ohio, Nov. 22, 1814. His father was a Presbyterian minister at Red Oak. He was educated at Hanover college, Indiana, graduating in 1839 with high honors. He practiced law in Indiana for a number of years, and in 1864, was commissioned judge of the court of common pleas, by O.P. Morton, governor of Indiana. In 1866 he moved to Ohio, where he had a large practice until old age compelled him to retire.
For 30 years he was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian church of Ripley, Ohio, where he lived until last May, when he and his wife removed to Davenport, to reside with their daughter, Mrs. James L. Mauker[sic]. His wife, son and daughter survive him.
The funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock this morning, Dr. Donaldson conducting the services. R.T. Robb will ship the remains at 1:45 p.m., to Ripley, Ohio, for interment.
