ELDRIDGE, Iowa -- Services for Lewis E. Shirlaw, Eldridge, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Lewis passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home. Lewis was born May 2, 1936, in Davenport, the son of William and Esther (Wilson) Shirlaw. He was united in marriage to Janice Mart on July 5, 1958, in Davenport. Mr. Shirlaw was employed at Caterpillar for 34 years before his retirement in October 1988. More recently, he had worked for Abbey Delray Retirement Community in Florida for 10 years before moving back to Eldridge. He liked woodworking and working with tools. He was a NASCAR racing fan and enjoyed other sports as well. Lewis was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. He enjoyed working in the church with his fellow brothers and teaching Sunday school. He was always helping people and doing things for them. His love for the Lord was very evident in his life. He enjoyed reading his Bible and studying the Word. Lewis loved being with people. His family and grandchildren were very important to him. Memorials may be made to New Kingdom trail Riders, 16900 63rd St., Sherrard, Ill. He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Kurt Schachner, Muskego, Wis.; two grandchildren, Megan and Laura Schachner; sisters, Bonnie Hultgren, Rock Island, Dawny Porter, Louisville, Ky., and Wilmina Henry of Missouri, and twin sister, Lois Van Maanen, Davenport; and 13 nieces, 13 nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jamie Lynn; three brothers; and a sister.
