Monday, April 29, 1974Harley Spears Dies In Crash
Harley Spears, 26, who was killed in a motorcycle accident at Davenport Saturday was the husband of the former Joan Standley, granddaughter of Mrs. Stella Messer, 602 W. Depot.
Last rites for Harley Spears will be held at Davenport Tuesday and burial will be in the Arsenal Cemetery. Spears was employed at the Arsenal.
The accident took place Saturday on the Rock Island Arsenal bridge between Iowa and Illinois.
Spears was operating the motorcycle when it went out of control, bounced off the side of the bridge and into the path of a car driven by Sally J. Whitka, Davenport.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Larry Noles, 27 was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car was not hurt.
In addition to his widow, Spears is survived by a three-year-old daughter.
