Mrs. Henry Vollmer Dies Unexpectedly in Piedmont, Calif., from Heart Disease.

Mrs. Jessie Vollmer, wife of Henry Vollmer, former Davenport mayor, ex-congressman and prominent local attorney, died suddenly at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Waldron Gregory, Piedmont, Cal. Death was due to heart disease.

Mrs. Vollmer returned to Davenport two weeks ago after spending three months with his wife. Previous to that time she was seriously ill with kidney trouble and asthma. However, when he left she was enjoying good health and members of her family were confident of her recovery. Her death came as a seer shock. She was 62 years old.

Funeral services will be held in Davenport at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of Mr. Vollmer's sisters, Mrs. Henry Von Maur, 2516 River Drive. Friends will be welcome at the services at the home but burial in Oakdale cemetery will be private. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

The body, accompanied by Dr. and Mrs. Waldron Gregory and two grandchildren, will arrive here Friday.

Born in Davenport.

Mrs, Vollmer was born in Davenport Oct 2. 1866, the daughter of the late Dr. W.F. Peck and Marie Purdy Peck. She received her education in the local schools and after being graduated from high school attended college in New York and also at Iowa university. On Dec. 2, 1891, she was married to Henry Vollmer at Davenport. For the last two years Mr. and Mrs. Vollmer have been making their home at the Blackhawk hotel.

In former years Mrs. Vollmer was active in various women's clubs of the city. She was a member of the Davenport Women's club and one of the organizers for the Music Students' club. For several years she was the Davenport representative of the Iowa Home Finding society. She was also a member of the Trinity Episcopal cathedral.

Possessing a charming personality and a willingness to be of service to others Mrs. Vollmer drew to her a wide circle of friends. Even in her recent illness she bore her troubles cheerfully and bravely. When the end came she passed away peacefully.

Surviving are the widower and two children, Mrs. Dorethea Gregory of Piedmont; and Harry Vollmer of Davenport, now in El Paso, Texas. Two grandchildren, Waldron A Gregory Jr., and Gloria Gregory, also survive.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. VOLLMER 3 P.M. SATURDAY.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Vollmer, who died last Sunday at Piedmont, Cal., will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Von Maur, 2616 River Drive. Friends will be welcome at the home but burial in Oakdale cemetery will be private. The Rev. Rowland Philbrook, dean of the Trinity cathedral will officiate. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

The body arrived in Davenport at 11:35 a.m. today, accompanied by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Waldron Gregory, and their two children.
