EDW. REYNOLDS DIES WITHIN WEEK OF WIFE.

Was Veteran of Civil War; Funeral of Wife Held Wednesday.

Edward H. Reynolds, veteran of the Civil war, and a resident of Davenport for the last seven years, died at 1:20 o'clock this afternoon at his home, 329 East Twenty-ninth street, just four days after that of his wife.

Death resulted from a stroke which he suffered late in January.

Only two days ago the boy of his wife, Mrs. Alice Reynolds, was buried at their former home in Rochelle, Ill.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Rochelle Dec. 18, 1844, and there received his education in the district schools. At the outbreak of the Civil war he was not quite 17 years old, but decided he wanted to enter the fray.

He applied for enlistment at the recruiting office at Rochelle and was accepted. Upon arriving at Camp Butler, at Springfield however, he was rejected and disappointed an chagrined, he returned to his home.

A short time after returning home he met the recruiting officer on the street and related his story. The officer told him he could arrange to get him thru as a musician and young Reynolds jumped at the chance altho he knew not the least thing about any instrument.

This time, however, he was accepted when he reached Camp Butler, and instead of a musical instrument, he engaged in many of the more important battles of the conflict but emerged from all unscathed.

At the close of the war he returned to Rochelle and opened a music store. He remained in that business until 1911, when he retired.

He was the member of that Methodist church and Horicon lodge, No. 244, of Rochelle, Sycamore commendatory, No. 15, of Sycamore Ill., and Tabala Temple Shrine of Rockford.

Not long after returning from the war he married Miss Carrie Lewis at Chicago, and to this union one daughter war born, Mrs. Caroline L. Kelley of Joliet, who survives. Later he married Miss Alice Bishop at Rochelle, whose death occurred this week. One son survives from this marriage. Howard G. Reynolds of Davenport.

Also surving are four grandchildren and two brothers. Walter S. Reynolds of DeKalb and William G. Reynolds of Davenport.

The body was removed to the Hill & Frederick chapel and will remain there until Monday morning, when it will be taken to Rochelle. Services will be held there at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the Methodist church. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge cemetery.
