Rock Island (IL) Argus; Saturday, January 15, 1916; p. 13:

John H. Cox passed away at his home, 2637 Bray [sic] street, yesterday after a short illness of pneumonia. Mr. Cox was a painter by trade and had made his home in Davenport for about thirty years. He was born in New York city, in 1865, and was united in marriage to Miss Anna Smith in Rock Island about thirty years ago. The couple came to Davenport soon after their marriage and have lived here since. The widow is the only survivor. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home with burial in Oakdale cemetery.
