Johannes Wagner, Age 70, Walcott, Ends Life Here by Drinking Carbolic Acid.

Despondency over a permanent injury to his left leg is believed to have caused Johannes Wagner, 70, of Walcott to end his life by drinking carbolic acid at about 1 p.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dora Wagner Pahl, 526 1/2 Ripley.

Wagner had come to town today to do his Christmas shopping and had stopped at his daughter's home for lunch. He had been taking medicine regularly and when he excused himself for a moment his daughter thought it for this purpose.

Wagner entered the bathroom and a few minutes later staggered forth in great agony from the pain caused by the burning acid. An ambulance was called and he was rushed to Mercy hospital but death overtook him on the way. Dr. L.E. Shafer was called and pronounced death due to the poison.

Wagner has no relatives near here except the daughter living in Davenport.
