James F. Gorman, Well Known Local Hotel Man, Succumbs to Long Illness

James F. Gorman, well known Davenport hotel man for many years but not active of late, died at 12:20 o'clock last night at the family home, 410 East Twelfth street, Death terminated an illness of several month's duration.

For many years Mr. Gorman was prominently identified with the hotel interests of Davenport. For a time he also conducted hotels in Chicago and Des Moines.

Mr. Gorman's first hotel venture in Davenport was the Hotel Downs at Third and Perry streets, present site of the Hotel Blackhawk. His next step was to become part owner and one of the managers of the Kimball House, now the Perry apartments. His last move was as part owner and one of the active managers of the Hotel Davenport. He and his associates opened the Hotel Davenport when it was first built.

Mr. Gorman was born in Davenport, May 11, 1857, and lived here all his life except for the periods that he conducted hotels in Des Moines and Chicago. He was of a genial and courteous nature and was very popular with the traveling public. He was a citizen of sterling worth and integrity and commanded the respect and confidence of all who knew him.

Mr. Gorman was united in marriage to Miss Mary Doheney in 1896 at St. Mary's church, Chicago, the Rev. J. Murphy officiating. He was an active and devout member of Sacred Heart Cathedral parish, Davenport.

Surviving is the wife, Mary Doheney Gorman, and one son,Arthur F. Gorman.

The remains will lie in state at the Halligan Funeral Home, 614 Main street, from 6 o'clock this evening until time of the obsequies.

The funeral will be held from the Halligan Funeral home at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning with services at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment will be made in St. Marguerite's cemetery.
