OBITUARY.

LOGAN.

Word has been received in this city of the death at Jimmez, Mexico, of Dr. Augustus R. Logan whom the older residents of Davenport will remember well. He was the second son of Andrew Logan the pioneer editor of Davenport. He was born in Cleveland in 1829 and moved with his parents to Beaver, Penn., where his father published the Beaver Republican. He came with the family to this city in 1838 where his father transplanted the Republican to this city and issued the first newspaper published in this city "The Iowa Sun and Davenport and Rock Island News," the first copy appearing July 7. Dr. Logan was a mere boy but he set the first line of type for the pioneer paper. THe Sun suspended publication some four years later and the family moved on a claim in Allen's Grove township. There they lived until A. R. Logan, who had studied medicine, left for Texas to practice his profession some thirty years ago.
