OBITUARY.
RUSSELL.
Warren Teele received a telegram from Minneapolis at noon today announcing the death of Mrs. Edward Russell, which occurred at an early hour this morning. Mrs. Russell was born in England sixty years ago and came to this country with her parents, settling in LeClaire, Ia. Her father was Rev. William Rutledge, a Baptist minister. She was married to Edward Russell while living in LeClaire, and with her husband moved to Davenport in 1859.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell made their home in Davenport until 1886, Mr. Russell during that time, serving sixteen years as a postmaster, and for almost twenty years was editor and proprietor of the Davenport Gazette. In 1886 Mr. Russell sold out his interest in the Gazette, and accompanied by his wife and family moved to Minneapolis, where he engaged in the real estate business. Mrs. Russell made her home from that time until her death with her daughter, Mrs. John Greer. Mrs. Russell was a member of the Edwards Congregational church for many years, and was very active in establishing the Congregational Bethlehem Mission in West Davenport. One son, Charles Russell, with the New York Herald, and three daughter, Mrs. John Greer, Mrs. Charles Scherer and Miss Alice survive, the three daughters living in Minneapolis. A brother William Rutledge, lives in LeClaire and a sister Mrs. F.C. Robinson, resides in this city, but was with Mrs. Russell at the time of her death. Another sister Mrs. Van Buren Phillips lives in Minneapolis. The cause of Mrs. Russell's death is unknown and was most unexpected by her numerous friends here as she had been in splendid health.
