OBITUARY.

MATTHEWS.

Benjamin Matthews, formerly of this county, died in his 90th year at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Foster, near Grinnell, last Tuesday night after a short sickness. He was born in New Jersey July 17, 1804, and came to Davenport in 1848 but soon went to farming at Hickory Grove. For the last four years he has been living with his daughter. His remains arrived here Friday morning accompanied by his son L.P. Matthews and son-in-law Thomas Foster, and were taken to Maysville and that afternoon they were interred as he had requested, by the side of his wife who died forty hears ago. His only children are L.P. of his city, Charles B., of Des Moines, and Barbara A. Foster.
