Obituary

DEATH OF MOSES KELLY.

Yesterday at 3 o'clock Mr. Moses Kelly, the well known and highly respected citizen of Davenport, passed into the great unknown, after seventy years of usefulness. Mr. Kelly has been in bad health for over eight years. His immediate death was caused by diabetes. Mr. Kelly was born of good and sturdy New England parents on the 14th of January, 1816, in Conway, New Hampshire. From Conway, New Hampshire. From Conway, Mr. Kelly moved to Lowell, Mass., where he engaged in the live stock business. Here he met his wife, who was then Harriette Moss, and after a brief courtship they were married. In 1857 they came to Davenport, and soon after settling down here Mr. K, started up in the provision business and soon afterward opened up a hardware store. In this business he continued for some time. Finally he sold out and helped to organize the Citizen's National bank, and was its first president. Upon his health beginning to fail, he retired and has not engaged in business of any kind since.

The deceased was an earnest Christian, and a member of the Congregational church of this city. He leaves a wife, one son and three daughters. The son, Frank, lives on a farm in Muscatine county. The daughters, two of whom were married, are Mrs. Harriett Jones of Indianapolis, Mrs. Katie Savage of Jacksonville, Ill., and Miss Abbie Kelly, who has resided at the home on the corner of Iowa and Fourteenth. Mr. Kelly's last illness commenced last Thursday and he soon became impressed with the belief that he was nearing his end. His four brothers, David and Asa of Chicago and Carlton and Samuel of Muscatine county were sent for. They came and were with him when he died. His loss is great and he will be sadly missed by our citizens. The funeral occurs at 11 o'clock at the residence, the services to be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Williston of the Congregational church.
