Obituary

Dodge

Not for the dead in Chris we weep; Their sorrows now are o'er; The sea is calm, the tempest past, On that Eternal Shore.

Since April 15th, Mrs. Caroline Dodge, wife of Frank L. Dodge, has been ill with rheumatism, and several times her life was despaired of, when hope would again spring up in the hearts of her devoted friends and relatives, as she would apparently rally and grow much better, only to take a relapse. But Sunday evening at half past 7 o'clock the dark angel of death claimed her and the weary, pain racked body was at rest. Her mother, Mrs. J.H. Berryhill, had been with her all afternoon and left at about 6:45, but had only reached home, when the telephone rang and she was told that Carrie was no more.

Mrs. Dodge was born in Harrisburg, Pa., in 1858 and came to Davenport with her parents in July, 1864, where she has lived ever since. She graduated from the high school in 1878, and then attended the State University. She was united in marriage with Frank L. Dodge, Nov. 4, 1880. Besides her husband and little daughter, Helen aged 7 years, she leaves, with her mother, Mrs. J.H. Berryhill, five sisters and two brothers to mourn her loss--Mrs. F.H. Shelley, of Kiowa, Kans., Mrs. C. Davison, of Minneapolis, the Misses Rebecca, Anna, and Harriette, at home, Charles E. of St. Paul, and John H., at home.

Mrs. Dodge was well known and held in the highest estimation by all. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, a kind and considerate daughter and sister. The grief stricken family will have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from Trinity church.
