Davenport - Graveside services for Oliver L. Rodenberg, 79, of Davenport, Iowa, will be held at noon on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill. Those wishing to attend should gather at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary by 11:15 a.m. on Thursday. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Rodenberg died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Forest Hill Health & Rehab Center in East Moline, Ill.

Oliver Lee Rodenberg was born in Guttenberg, Iowa, on March 26, 1931, the son of Oliver and Ruth (Johnson) Rodenberg. He served as a Private in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Following his military obligations, he married Cynthia May Wilsey in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death in May of 1997. Mr. Rodenberg worked for many years for the City of Davenport in the Street Department. In earlier years he had worked for Alter & Sons. He most especially enjoyed being outdoors, building flat boats, and being on the river. Former memberships include the Davenport Moose and Eagles.

He is survived by a daughter, Patty Eckhardt of Muscoda, Wis.; a son, Oliver Rodenberg of Davenport; two stepdaughters, Sandra Benson of Davenport and Barb Wright of Kingman, Ariz.; a stepson, Fred Claussen of Davenport; a longtime companion, Beulah Nefzger; special friends and caregivers, Gloria Cady and Denise Schafer; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
