Garvey -

On Saturday morning at 4 o’clock occurred the death of Simon Garvey, at his home 1840 West Third street after a short illness of pneumonia.

Mr. Garvey was the well known flagman for the Rock Island railroad company stationed at the intersection of Fifth and Marquette streets. He filled this position for many years and was known by every person in that part of the city. He was highly respected by all who knew him and was one of the best employees of the company. Mr. Garvey had many friends among the farmers that passed his flaghouse and they will greatly miss him.

He was born in Clare, Ireland, and was 68 years old having resided 50 years in this state.

He is survived by five daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. R. D. Baird of this city, Mrs. Andrew Flynn of Elmira, N.Y., Mrs. Oliver Carpenter of Wellington, Kan., Mrs. George Tank of this city, Miss Nellie at home, Michael at Brookfield, Mo., and Thomas at home. He also leaves one brother, Michael, of this city.

The funeral will [be] held tomorrow (Monday) morning at 9 o’clock with services at St. Mary’s church, Rev. J. P. Ryan officiating. Interment at St. Mary’s church.
