Died at her home in Buffalo, Ia., Saturday morning, at 5:30.
Death was due to heart failure, which was prompted by a fall while in Des Moines some weeks ago. Another fall on Monday compelled her to remain in bed the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Herbert was born in Baden, May 12, 1844. She came to the United States in 1852 and was married in 1859 at Independence, Ia., to Valentine Herbert.
In 1860 she came to Buffalo, and in 1872 she became proprietor of the City hotel, which she retained thirty-two years.
Mrs. Herbert was 60 years old last May, and is survived by five children; George, Hugo, Edith, Mrs. John Waspi and Mrs. John Brownfield, and five grandchildren, Chas. & Anna Waspi, George & Norma Herbert and Herbert Brownfield; also by three sisters, Caroline Renford [should be Renfer] of Springville, Mrs. C. A. Johnson of Spring Grove and Frances Taylor of Nebraska, and by two brothers, Louis and Henry Taylor of Spring Grove.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m., with services at St. Peter’s church, and interment in the Catholic cemetery, at Buffalo, Ia.
