RICHARD S. CRAIG
Sunday afternoon at Mercy Hospital occurred the death of Richard S. Craig aged 63 years. He was taken to the hospital about a week ago in the hope that his disease, urinary trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for a long time, might be cured. Mr. Craig was one of the oldest settlers of Scott county, coming here in 1839 from Hillsboro, Highland county, O., where he was born Jan. 28, 1826. After remaining here a few months he and his father returned to the old Ohio home but in 1850 Mr. Craig came back to Scott county where he has lived ever since. For years he was employed on the island as a carpenter. He was also a special policeman and afterwards a regular patrolman under Marshal Poole. Mr. Craig leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death. William, his eldest child, is a prosperous farmer in Blue Grass township. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Geweye, lives in Brooklyn, Iowa, and the other, Mrs. Sarah Gallagher lives in this city. Mr. Craig's father aged ninety years, is living in Ohio.
