Martha Ellen Lyter Glaspell

[Davenport newspaper 16 July 1898] One of the oldest settlers, Mrs. Martha Ellen Lyter Glaspell, died in Chicago Saturday from heart trouble.
Mrs. Glaspell was born May 7th, 1835 [Pike County, Missouri, to Samuel and Sophia Reese Lyter] and came to Davenport with her parents in 1837.
Her father was one of the early merchants in Rockingham Township [annexed to Davenport in 1950s] and one of the first merchants in Davenport.
Here she was married to Barton Stanthem Glaspell whose death occurred in 1888, February 4th.
A few years ago she removed to Chicago. Two children survive her, Harry Glaspell and Mrs. Bert Morse.
The funeral will take place from the residence of J. M. Glaspell, 621 LeClaire Street, at 10 o'clock Monday morning.
[Burial was at Davenport's Oakdale Memorial Gardens, 2501 Eastern Ave. 52803 Sec 2 Lot 166.]
