Witte

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Witte died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.V. Heisler, 133 Birchwood avenue, at 1:35 this morning after a sickness of nine days’ duration.

She was born Sept. 2, 1843, in Hamburg, Germany, and had lived in Davenport since 1851. Her maiden name was Haak. She was married in Davenport to Charles Witte, who preceded her in death. She was a sister of the late Ferdinand Haak, well known here as a cigar manufacturer. Mrs. Witte was a member of the German Lutheran church.

The death within one year of three children who succumbed to pneumonia caused a break in the health of Mrs. Witte, who had a great love for her home. One daughter, Mrs. Tillie Brockmann of Seattle, Wash., four grand daughters, Mrs. C.V. Heisler with whom she lived here in Davenport, Mrs. A. Dennie, Mrs. Madsen, and Mrs. Ed. Armil, all of Davenport, and one grandson, Charles Witte, of Davenport, survive her besides a number of more distant relatives.

The body was removed to the Horrigan & Son parlors to remain until the completion of arrangements for the funeral, the hour and place of which will be announced later.
