“Henry Suhl of Buffalo [Scott County, Iowa]. 48. well known Buffalo resident killed himself at 6 o’clock Monday evening in the garage at the rear of his home. A charge of gun shot from a shotgun which he had fastened to a shelf and pulled the trigger by means of a wire, entered his chest bringing instant death. He was in the best of health and no possible motive has been established for his action. His watch, bill fold, and a departing note tohis family were placed on the shelf beside the gun. “Good-bye to my family, they have always been good to me,” was the contents of the note. Mr. Suhl had no financial reversals and was one of the most highly respected citizens of Buffalo. He was connected with the Hawkeye Button Works of Muscatine which he formerly owned and had sold to the present owners. The deceased was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on June 13, 1880. He came to America with his parents when still an infant, direct to Buffalo, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Miss Marie Moeller, at Davenport [actually, they married in Rock Island, Illinois – across the Mississippi from Davenport] on June 21, 1899. He was of Lutheran faith and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Walter and Harold Suhl, Buffalo; five sisters, Mrs. Lena Lindeman, Chicago; Mrs. Jurgen Schreck, Mrs. Anna Schulmeister, and Mrs. William Plambeck, Davenport; and Mrs. Carl Zabel, Drummond, Wis.; two brothers, Chris Suhl, Davenport; and Bernhard of Denver, Colo.; and one grandchild. The body was removed to the Hill & Frederick’s mortuary. Funeral services will be hald at the late home in Buffalo at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be made in Fairmount cemetery.” (“Davenport Democrat and Leader," 7 April 1928)
