Catherine Blount 01/26/2000 BETTENDORF -- Services for Catherine A. Blount, Bettendorf, will be 2 P.M. Friday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-8 P.M. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a vigil service at 4 P.M. Mrs. Blount died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness. Catherine Speer was born July 29, 1944, in Davenport, to Merle E. and Andorthy M. (Scott) Speer. She married Gerald Dienstl in 1965. She married Gerald Blount on Dec. 23, 1972. He died April 14, 1980. Catherine graduated from Assumption High School Class of 1962. She graduated from Marycrest College in 1972. She was a social worker for the state of Iowa Department of Human Services. She retired in 1994. She was a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and was a longtime member of the Divorced Catholic Group. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting The President Riverboat Casino. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved music and had a special talent for playing the organ. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her father, Merle E. Speer, Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Robert West, LeClaire, Iowa; sons, David Blount, and his girlfriend, Terry Jackson, Bettendorf, Jeff Blount, and his girlfriend, Amita Nathwani, Fairfield, Iowa, and Jacob Blount, Davenport; grandchildren, Robert, Brandon and Monica West and Soma Blount; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Gordon Anderson, LeClaire, Mary and Dan Schulte, Bettendorf, Maureen and Ken Trafton, Indianapolis, Andorthy and Randy Kilby, Davenport, and Karen and Ira Lathan, Aurora, Ill.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Louise Speer, Bettendorf, Dick and Joan Speer, Natchitoches, La., Bill Speer, and his girlfriend, Deb Stroud, Princeton, Iowa, Bob and Sandy Speer, Blue Grass, Iowa, and Roland and Carol Speer and Joe and Pam Speer, all of Davenport; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her family, she will always be remembered by her lifelong friend, Mary Derksen. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Andorthy Speer, on Aug. 29, 1996; and a brother, Andrew Speer, on April 12, 1963. May they rest in peace.
