Davenport Daily Leader (Davenport, IA); Wednesday, August 1, 1900:

Gress

This morning at 12:30 o’clock, at the home of the father, Burkard Gress, 1235 Harrison street, occurred the death of his oldest daughter, Minnie, aged 12 years.

The case is a very sad one, the little one’s mother having died in January last, and her aunt a few weeks later.

The little one had just passed through a severe spell of illness and it was thought that she had fully recovered from it, but in her weakened condition, she was stricken with paralysis of the throat from which death resulted.

Minnie Gress was born Feb. 16, 1888. She was a bright and charming little girl and the pride of her father. The oldest of his family, it was his hope that she would soon grow to fill the place made vacant by the death of her mother. She cared for her little brother and sisters with instinct remarkable in one of her years.

Besides her bereaved father, she is survived by one brother, Max, and two sisters, Hilda and Annie.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:30 o’clock with services at St. Joseph’s church. Interment at Holy Family cemetery.
