Mrs. J. Ochsner of Buffalo is Called to Rest

Lived There for 60 Years After Residing in Davenport for Ten Years

Mrs. Dominicus Ochsner, a pioneer resident of Buffalo, Ia., died at her residence there, Saturday at 9:30 p.m., following a short illness of several days. Mrs. Ochsner would have been 85 years old had she lived until June of this year.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, June 9, 1841, Mrs. Ochsner came to this country in 1855. Her maiden name was Johanna Neumeister. For ten years, she made her home in Davenport and for the past 60 years, resided in Buffalo. She was married to Dominicus Ochsner, Jan. 21, 1861 in Davenport, who preceded her in death, April 16, 1918.

Thirteen days after her arrival in Davenport from her native city, her mother died, leaving a family of small children to blaze the trail for the succeeding generations. Mrs. Ochsner often told of how she was obliged to carry boards to bridge the streets in order that she could attend school, and related that the business district of Davenport of today, was then a swamp, often under water during the summer season.

Until a few days before her death, she was interested in all topics of the present day and recalled advancement in transportation and communication from the old cart drawn by oxen, to the modern airplane, and the mail carrier who traveled on horseback, to radio with dispatches, all since her coming to Scott county.

Surviving are four sons, Louis T., Adolph C. and William F., all of Buffalo, and Edward C., of Los Angeles; five daughters, Mrs. C. R. Frank, Mrs. Emma Sparks and Mrs. A. W. Steen, all of Buffalo; Mrs. Alma Hierseman, of Los Angeles; and Mrs. John Bell, of Davenport; two sisters, Mrs. John Hierseman, of Los Angeles, and Mrs. A. Pangborn, of Colorado; 26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the late home, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. The Rev. M. A. Getzendaner will officiate at the residence and at the interment at Rose Hill cemetery.
