Davenport Daily Leader (Davenport, IA): Friday December 10, 1897:

Schlapp

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Lange, No. 1805 Walnut street, at 8:00 o’clock this morning occurred the death of Mrs. Marie Schlapp, widow of Mr. George Schlapp, a formerly well known citizen. Deceased was 84 years of age and succumbed to the infirmities which time brings to all so far advanced in life.

Mrs. Schlapp was born in Germany, where she was married, coming to this country in the fifties. She has made this city her home ever since and has been widely known and beloved as on of the kindest and most loving mothers and neighbors. She enjoyed fairly good health almost up to the time of her death, and was even able to attend the wedding of her granddaughter, now Mrs. Karl Vollmer, but two weeks ago.

Mr. Schlapp died some years ago, but there are three daughters and two sons, beside a number of grandchildren and a host of friends, who will sincerely mourn for one whose aim was to cheer and brighten the lives of others.

The living children are Mrs. A. J. Lerch, Mrs. Henry Koehler, Mrs. Rudolph Lange, all of this city, George, of Ft. Madison, Ia., and Herman, living in Australia.

The time for the funeral has not yet been set, but it will probably be Sunday afternoon.
