Mrs. John Hartwig

Mrs. John Hartwig died this morning shortly after seven o’clock at the residence on Green Castle Avenue. The immediate cause of death was septic peritonitis. She was confined to her bed only a week.

Mrs. Hartwig was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, 56 years ago. At the age of 22 she came to America and settled in Davenport, where she was united in marriage to John Hartwig. Shortly after marriage they came to Newton and have lived here ever since. The subsequent history of the family is familiar to Newton people. The remains were taken to Davenport for cremation.

Besides her husband she leaves two children, Francis and Rose, to mourn her loss.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o’clock at the home, and on Wednesday morning the remains will be taken to Davenport. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, December 12, 1904, Page 1, Column 2
