The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 21, 1881
W. J. Young & Co., the great Clinton lumber firm, and Weyerhauser & Denkmann, of Rock Island, are having built at the Diamond Jo boat ways, Dubuque, two of the finest raft boats which have ever pushed logs on the Mississippi River. They are to be 130 feet long, 30 feet beam, with 14 cylinders, six feet strokes, two steel boilers, each 30 feet long, which is a new departure; steel shafts, cranks and wrists, also new. The boat will be thoroughly equipped in every way, undoubtedly the best ever built hereabouts. The owners are wealthy and will spare no expense. The boat will be ready at the opening of Navigation. – Davenport Gazette.
