Charles Cooper, a Davenport lawyer, lost a case in Scott County court and also lost his bottle. Loss of the case was bad enough, but when a bottle of alleged liquor fall from an attorney's pocket in open court, that's another thing. Members of the Scott County Bar Association said today that the affair warranted an investigation.
Cooper was defending a colored man charged with a statutory offense and had finished his closing arguments when a half pint bottle of a colorless liquid fell from his pocket. A Deputy Sheriff picked up the bottle and gave it to Sheriff Martin. The Sheriff declared the bottle contained "white mule."
