Dr. Jennings Price Crawford was one of twin brothers, born August 27 [22?], 1855 in Linn County, IA. [1860 Marion census, no twin listed]. His twin, Dr. A. J. Crawford died some years ago [prior to this 1907 posting]. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jennings Crawford who lived in Pennsylvania and Ohio but moved to Iowa before the birth of the twin brothers.

Jennings received his early education in Linn County and attended Western College at Western, IA. In 1879 he entered the medical department of the Iowa State University [University of Iowa, Iowa City] from which he graduated as 1883 class valedictorian.

He moved to Davenport immediately. During two vacations he was house physician at Mercy Hospital [Genesis West]. Dr. W. F. Peck was his preceptor and professor in surgery, and his admiration for his instructor probably inspired him to specialize in surgery. Dr. Crawford was lecturer on surgical technique and operative procedure at the University of Iowa for several years.

Dr. Crawford gained a high reputation and was a member of several professional societies. He read a large number of papers before these societies: the Iowa State Medical Society and the Iowa and Illinois District Medical Association, the American Medical Association,and he was president a number of times of the Scott County Medical Society.

During President Harrison's administration, Dr. Crawford was a United States Pension Examiner. He was physician and surgeon at Mercy Hospital and St. Luke's [Genesis East] at his death.

He was one of the charter members of the San Grail Society organized in 1885, taking an active part with his wife, Anna Williams Crawford, also a member. He has been a member and esteemed worker of Calvary Baptist Church, 1403 Perry, and attained the highest standards of Christian character which gained for him the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in touch. For a considerable number of years he has been a deacon of Calvary Baptist church.

Dr. Crawford was married on October 14, 1885 in Davenport, Scott, IA to Miss Anna Williams, dtr of Alexander Fraser/Frasier and Frances Mary Robinson Williams, born 26 Feb 1862 in Davenport. [Alexander was the brother of Mary High Williams, wife of Jacob Mullen Eldridge]. Alexander was in the firm of Sieg Iron Co.

At his death 24 Mar 1907, in Davenport, Dr. Crawford's survivors were: wife Anna, dtrs Frances Louise, studying at Mt. Holyoke, Mass, Genevieve, Helen, Dorothy and Margaret; a brother Dr. G. E. Crawford of Cedar Rapids, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Lydia Litzenberg and Mrs. Phoebe Coe, both of Minneapolis.
