John Mullen Eldridge (Josiah2, William1)was born 1 September 1810 probably in Haddonfield, New Jersey, son of Josiah and Sarah Middleton Eldridge.
He married Mary Ann Adams, 10 March 1833 in Gloucester County, NJ.
Mary Ann was born 17 September 1808 in NJ and the family came to Davenport in 1839 where John, trained as a tailor, opened the first tailor shop. The first Baptist services were held at John and Mary's home. They began the first Baptist church with 3 other families - Calvary Baptist Church.
John and Mary were also among original members of the Pioneer Settlers Ass'n of Scott County. The family home, a 20-acre farm, was on Jersey Ridge Road. They had 5 children: Joseph H., Emily H., Anna H., Theodore Fortiner, and Bowman Henry. (H could also be M - transcriber error)
John and Mary died in Davenport are buried in Davenport's Oakdale Memorial Gardens Sec 1 Lot 157E. John died 13 February 1891, Mary Ann died 28 March 1886.
