Ann was born in Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee, IA on December 3, 1946 to Keith and Annabelle Irwin, the second of four of the "Irwin kids." Her father Keith was in a different hospital having surgery and Annabelle was 60 miles away having baby Ann. When infant Ann arrived home her two year-old sister, Jane asked, "Who had the baby? Mommy or Daddy?" This was the beginning of Ann's life of joy, laughter and spirit.
Ann was always ahead of her time. She was reading when she was three years old. She had a paper route when she was 12 which was unusual in the 50s.
Ann married her high school sweetheart, David C. Bauer. Three children were born to this union.
She received her degree in journalism from Drake University. She taught high school journalism in Dubuque. An avid skier, Ann was on the ski patrol at Sundown in Dubuque. Active in the Barn Community Theater, she played parts in several productions.
An athlete all her life, Ann enjoyed jogging, walking, bicycling, skiing, golf, swimming and tennis. She climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and completed several RAGBRAIs.
England, Wales, Finland, Germany, Hawaii, France, Africa, New Zealand, Australia and China were countries she visited with family and friends. Her hobbies include furniture refinishing and interior decorating. She was a wonderful cook and loved to read.
In 2008, she married her childhood friend, Mitchell Stock of Modesto CA.
Most recently, Ann was clerk in the Iowa Senate for Senator Jim Hahn of Muscatine. Previously, she was clerk to Senator Steve Kettering of Lake View in the Iowa House of Representatives and the Senate.
Ann moved to her hometown of Lake View on Black Hawk Lake. She enjoyed boating and watching picturesque sunsets. For three years, she built water floats for the Summer Water Carnival.
She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, friend and colleague. She loved children and they loved her. We will miss her smile, laughter and fun sense of humor.
