Darwin Becker
October 28, 1928 - September 20, 2019

Darwin Becker, age 90 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA. Darwin Dean Becker was born on October 28, 1928, to parents Otto and Minnie (Huisenga) Becker. He grew up in Breda where he was baptized and confirmed into the Presbyterian faith. Darwin attended country school and graduated from Wall Lake High School. After graduation, Darwin joined the United States Air Force serving his country in the Korean War.

On May 9, 1951, Darwin was united in marriage to Darlene Jane Kies. This union was blessed with four children: Larry, David, Joni, and Jason. He and Darlene raised their family on the family farm west of Breda. Darwin farmed for most of his life and he received the Heritage Farm Award from the State of Iowa, celebrating 150 years of the family farm. When he wasn’t farming, Darwin enjoyed playing cards, collecting coins, and traveling. He and his wife traveled to Arizona during the winter months for the past 17 years.

Darwin was a lifetime member of the Wheatland Presbyterian Church and a member of the Men’s Club. He was also a long time member of the American Legion Post in Breda, IA. For many years, Darwin was heroic in his battle with heart disease. He faced each challenge with courage and an upbeat resolve. His hard working attitude and friendly demeanor will be remembered by all those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years Darlene of Lake View, IA; children: Larry (Susan) Becker of Carroll, IA, David Becker of Ottumwa, IA, Joni (Tony) Smith of Webster City, IA, and Jason Becker of Breda, IA; grandchildren: Sara Becker (Eric Lampe), Paul Becker (Carol Wright), Davey Jr., Derek, and Desmond Becker, Fallon (Joel) Barnes, Brittany (Joey) Crandall, Kristine Smith, Austin Smith, and Nicole Becker; great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Kira, Lewis, Lucerne, Leonard, Memphis, Jenna, Payce, and Layla.

Darwin is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Becker.
