David Earl Bettin, the son of Earl and Helen (Fluehr) Bettin, was born on October 29, 1941, in Sac City, IA. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up on the family farm south of Early, IA. David graduated from Crestland High School with the class of 1959.

When asked by his parents if he wanted to attend college, his reply was, “Buy me a tractor, I’m going to be a farmer”. So David began farming with his father and father-in-law. On June 21, 1959, David was united in marriage to Audrey Mandernach, in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Fort Dodge, IA. The couple were blessed with three children Jay, Tal, and Dena. David and Audrey were married for over 40 years and later parted ways.

David continued to farm with his father. The tradition would continue as David would farm with his sons and grandsons. In 2006, David started seeing longtime friend LaDonna Miller. The couple enjoyed going treasure hunting for antiques and John Deere memorabilia. David was a member of the Board of Directors for the Federal Land Bank and also served as a board member for the Sac County Pork Producers & Beef Producers.

David liked spending time with family and friends. He will fondly be remembered for his sense of humor and his ornery but kind hearted ways.

He is survived by his mother Helen Bettin; children Tal (Linda) Bettin and Dena (Kyle Lackman) Bettin all of Odebolt, IA; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sister Sally (Brent) Morrison of Ames, IA; 2 nieces and 1 nephew; companion LaDonna Miller of Odebolt, IA; and extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his father Earl Bettin and his son Jay Bettin.
