Veit, Paul
(March 10, 1923 - April 17, 2019)Paul Veit, age 96, of Odebolt, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at his home. Paul was born on March 10, 1923, to John and Mary (Smith) Veit in Dickenson County, Milford, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School/Milford Elementary and Jr. High, Okoboji Consolidated School/Milford High School and graduated from Odebolt-Arthur High School. After graduation, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1946.
On November 25, 1948, Paul was united in marriage to Dolores Mae Holliday at St Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt. This union was blessed with five children: Lance, Valerie, Rebecca, Barbara, and Stephanie. They made their home near Odebolt where Paul was engaged in farming and raising turkeys. Paul was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church. He enjoyed being outside, hunting and fishing. He liked playing cards and shooting pool.
Survivors include his children; Lance (Christina) Veit of Davis, CA, Valerie (Paul) Nepper of Odebolt, IA, Rebecca (Tim) Curnyn of Kiron, IA, Barbara Veit of Storm Lake, IA, and Stephanie (Stephen) Cooke of Columbus, OH; 13 grandchildren: Nicole (Jason)Smith, Brandon (Rachel) Nepper, Aaron (Jessica) Nepper, Jennifer (Sean) Rath, Shawna (Mark) Hopkins, Adam (Deanna) Ullrich, Levi (Laura) Ullrich, Sara (Matt) Roeder, Matthew, Andrew, and Victoria Cooke, Rachael and Jacob Veit, 27 great-grandchildren; and sister Leona Mattson of Crescent City, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Veit; wife Dolores, August 28th, 2004; brothers: David and Daniel Veit, infant brother John; sisters: Gertrude Frost, Dorothy Winker, Clara Mitchell, Sister Florence FSPA, Frances Withers, Rose Crone and Marie Diersen.
Dad's parting words will forever be: "Shoot 'em where they look the biggest."
