Veronica M. Chase, age 78, of Fonda, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Veronica Mary, a daughter of Edward and Margaret (Duffy) Prendergast, was born on June 5, 1939, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attended school at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic School in Fonda, graduating in 1957. She, later, earned a degree in Nursing Home Administration and worked as an Administrator at the Albert City Pleasant View Home. On November 23, 1957, she married Douglas Francis Chase in Fonda. Subsequently, they were blessed with eight children: Julie, Mary, Margaret, Edward, Douglas, Daniel, Martin, and Catherine.

A lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Veronica served with the Holy Family Society, the Council of Catholic Women, and the Legion of Mary. Obviously, she enjoyed playing an active role within the church community. In addition to her responsibilities at church, she, also, served on the Board of Directors of Loring Hospital in Sac City. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, and discussing politics. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family. She will, definitely, be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Douglas F. Chase, of Fonda, Iowa; her children: Julie (Pat) Harrington, of Pomeroy, Iowa, Mary (Rick) Krull, of Fonda, Iowa, Margaret Tewes (friend, Neil Schook), of Blair, Nebraska, Edward (Rachel) Chase, of Carroll, Iowa, Douglas (Mary) Chase, of Omaha, Nebraska, Martin (Tawnya) Chase, of Fonda, Iowa, and Catherine (Tony) Strauss, of Early, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; as well as extended family members and friends. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Margaret Prendergast; a son, Daniel P. Chase; and a grandson, Carson Daniel Chase.

Memorials may be designated to the Ronald McDonald House, 730 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52246.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery also in Fonda. Visitation will take place Friday, March 2, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Memorials may be designated to the Ronald McDonald House, 730 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52246. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
