February 5, 1942 - August 7, 2017Jean Pickhinke, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Early, Iowa, died on Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Jean Marie Tentinger, a daughter of Erwin and Marie (Gengler) Tentinger, was born on February 5, 1942, in Remsen, Iowa. Baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen as an infant and later confirmed there in 1950, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen, graduating from high school in 1960. She, then, continued her education at the Mercy School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. On September 1, 1962, Jean married David Joseph Pickhinke in Remsen. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Gwen, Steve, Russell, and Ellen. A former member of the Sacred Heart Guild in Early and the Cook Township Merry Gardeners Club, she, currently, belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
Jean enjoyed traveling, dancing, frequenting casinos, playing cards, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye. In addition, she loved baking cookies for her grandchildren and playing cards with them. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, David Pickhinke, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Gwen (Steve) Peters, of Marcus, Iowa, Steve (Tracy) Pickhinke, of Early, Iowa, Russell (Lisa) Pickhinke, of Sac City, Iowa, and Ellen (Travis) Bolton, of Olathe, Kansas; her grandchildren: John (Kelly) Peters, of Cleghorn, Iowa; Emily Peters, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lisa Peters, of Cherokee, Iowa; David Peters, of Cleghorn, Iowa; Tyler, Alex, Connor, and Logan Pickhinke, of Early, Iowa; Ashley, Brad, and Megan Pickhinke, of Sac City, Iowa; Valerie, Hope, and Luke Bolton, of Olathe, Kansas; her great grandchild, Heidi Peters; and her siblings: Janice Coon, of Carroll, Iowa, Marilyn (Paul) Sohm, of Rochester, Minnesota, Mike (Ann) Tentinger, of Remsen, Iowa, Pat (Fran) Tentinger, of Des Moines, Iowa, Jerry (Pat) Tentinger, of Remsen, Iowa, Tom (Deb) Tentinger, of McKinney, Texas, Chuck (Jo) Tentinger, of Remsen, Iowa, and Mary (Roger) Welsh, of Norwalk, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, August 11, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
