June 6, 1955 - March 7, 2017Merlin D. Hutchinson, age 61, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Merlin Dean Hutchinson, son of Virgil and Charolette (Nation) Hutchinson, was born on June 6, 1955, in Sac City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Church in Sac City, he grew up in Sac City and attended Sac City Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1973. After graduation, he continued his education at DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa, and KU Medical in Kansas City, Kansas, where he earned his Certification as a Special Procedure X-ray Technologist. He spent many hours doing his clinical studies at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
On February 14, 1992, Merlin married Melody Robuck in Des Moines. Subsequently, they became the proud parents of four children: Donald, Eugene, Virgil, and Jacquelyn.
Throughout his career, Merlin worked in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa as a Radiological Technologist. After moving his family to Storm Lake, Iowa, in January of 2002, he continued his career until his health forced him to retire.
An avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, he, also, enjoyed attending tailgating parties at home games. In addition, he liked hunting, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, and going to car races. Moreover, he had a passion for music and loved to play his guitar and sing. Because of his love for music, he became active in the Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta, Iowa.
Merlin’s life will always be cherished and celebrated by his family which includes his wife, Melody, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his daughters: Stephanie Bals, of Lennox, Iowa, and Jacquelyn Hutchinson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sons: Donald Miller and Eugene Hutchinson, both of Overland Park, Kansas, and Virgil Hutchinson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren; his mother, Charolette Hutchinson, of Sac City, Iowa; his sisters: Martha Sharpe, of Temple, Texas, and Mary Coleman, of Nemaha, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Merlin was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Hutchinson.
