Mrs. Eva Babcock Buried at Odebolt
Funeral services were held Friday, May 3, 1963 at 2 p.m. at the Galva Methodist church for Eva T. Babcock, formerly of Odebolt. Mrs. Babcock died Tuesday morning April 30th at the home of her son, Guy V. Babcock of Galva, Iowa at the age of 92 years and one month. Services were conducted by Rev. Maurice Frevert. “Ivory Places” and “The Lights of Home” were sung by Helen Wanberg and Shirley Hamann accompanied by Naomi Lamm on the organ. Mrs. Truman N. Peterson and Mrs. Guy Mantz were in charge of the flowers.
Pall bearers were six grandsons, Howard Babcock of Millard, Nebraska, Lloyd Babcock of Galva, Eugene Babcock of Storm Lake, Willis and Austin Babcock of Odebolt and John Wilson of Ida Grove. Internment was in Odebolt cemetery.
Eva T. Warriner, daughter of Willis W. and Rhoda C. Warriner was born in Monmouth, Iowa March 31, 1871. She attended schools in Monmouth and graduated from high school there. In 1892 she came to Odebolt to attend the wedding of her brother, Clint Warriner and remained in Odebolt nearly all her life.
February 6, 1895 she married Elmer E. Babcock. Five children were born to them. They lived on the home farm near Odebolt until 1920 when they moved into town. The past seven years she has made her home with her son Guy V. Babcock at Galva.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Lloyd E. and Charles W., two son-in-laws, Lawrence A. Story and Clarence Hoaglund, two grand-daughters and one grandson, five brothers and two half sisters.
Survivors include one son, Guy V. of Galva, two daughters, Florence, Mrs. Hoaglund of Ida Grove and Helen, Mrs. Lawrence Story of Odebolt; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Lloyd Babcock and Mrs. Guy Babcock, 17 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren; on half brother, Howard Warriner of Fairmont, Minnesota, three half sister, Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Fairmont, Minnesota, Mrs. Chris Nielson of Gilmore City, and Mrs. Knute Krohn of Sutherland.
Mrs. Babcock was a member of the Odebolt Methodist church, the Woman’s Relief Corp of Odebolt and was a charter member of the Isis club.
Relatives and friends attended from Fairmont, Minnesota, Gilmore City, Sutherland, Sioux Rapids, Webb, Ottumwa, Storm Lake, Ida Grove, Schaller, Odebolt, Galva, Sioux City, and Pocahontas.
