Helen Marie Noyd, 79, passed away January 1, 1991. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson officiated with music provided by Rick and Barb Votrobeck and organist Arlene Sundell. The flower committee was Mrs. W. E. Story, Mrs. Milton Paul, and Mrs. Jim Wareham.
Honorary attendants were Milton Paul, W. E. Story, Wilbert Mohr, Earl Bettin, Howard Mandernach, Lloyd Lundblad, Mrs. Hilma Fertig, Mrs. Gladys Williams, Mrs. Clara Youngren, and Mrs. Doris Krusenstjerna.
The active attendants were Curtis Raasch, Jim Wareham, Howard Hustedt, Roger Buehler, Jay Olsen and Eugene Stock. The final resting place was the Odebolt Cemetery with Farber and Otteman Funeral Homes in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Marie Noyd, first child of Edward B. and Catherine Currie Dannenberg was born January 16, 1911 on the family farm northeast of Odebolt. She received her baptism and early Christian training in the Richland Methodist Church near her home and cherished the memories of these early years all of her life.
Helen graduated from the Odebolt High School in 1927 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Coe College in 1932. She was a teacher in several rural schools in this area and taught English and drama in the Moville, Iowa high school. On December 20, 1936, she married Almer Noyd of Odebolt in a Christmas wedding ceremony at her parental home. They had one son, John. The young couple farmed for six years then moved to Odebolt where they owned a petroleum distribution business for thirty-two years.
Helen was always interested in the betterment of her community and country. For many years she was active in politics with the Republican Party at the local, county, and district levels. She was a delegate from the Eighth District of Iowa to the National Republican Women’s Convention in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Odebolt where she served in the Sunday School for many years. She was chairman of Lutheran Church Women as well as having served on various committees. One of her most interesting and rewarding assignments was serving as chairperson for the 75th anniversary of Faith Lutheran in 1966. She authored the church history for this event.
Helen was a fifty year member of the Tuesday Club where she served as an officer at the local and county levels.
She and her family enjoyed travel. Her visits included the Scandinavian countries, Israel, Greece, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as well as visiting nearly all of North America. She enjoyed hosting visitors from other countries.
Preceding her in death were her father in 1969, her mother in 1985, her sister Lois (Mrs. Willard Linden) in 1970, her brother Robert in 1976. Survivors in addition to her husband and son John of West St. Paul, Minnesota are sisters, Elaine (Mrs. Elwin Raasch) of Odebolt, Ruth (and her husband Harold Boney) of Lake View; sister-in-law Mavis (Mrs. Robert Dannenberg), Edith (Mrs. George Noyd), Lorraine (Mrs. Gustaf Noyd); brother-in-law Howard Noyd and his wife Elizabeth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
