Funeral services for Jerry Wendell Abarr were held Monday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield with Rev. Jerry White officiating. Interment was at the Clearfield Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by Woodside Post #97 of the American Legion.

Jerry Wendell Abarr, son of Ardith and Marietta Abarr was born August 12, 1938 at Blockton, IA and departed this life April 20, 2001, in Des
Moines, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 8 days.

He graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1957 and after graduation served in the Army until 1964. While in the Army he was united in marriage to Hazel Merrill. To this union one child, Gary Abarr, was born. Rick Abarr and Dale, Larry, Bob, Jeff and David Merrill were an important part of Jerry's life for 15 years.
On November 2, 1974 Jerry was united in marriage to Connie Tull Stanley. Three children were brought into this marriage. Gary and Angle and
Scott Stanley. Jerry and Connie have shared many interests, including gardening, their horses, and antique shopping in their 27 years of marriage.
Jerry's happiest moments were when he was surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. At the time of his death he was mayor of Clearfield, the town that was his pride and joy. He also served as the community's mayor in the early 1980's.

Jerry was a member of the American Legion and the Clearfield United Methodist Church. He was also a past member of the Clearfield Lion's Club and previously associated with the Boy Scouts of America and served as an assistant scout master when stationed in Italy.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Connie; his son, Gary Abarr and special friend Jane of Tonganoxie, MO; step-daughter, Angie Hendron and husband, Jeff of Eatontown, NJ; step-son Scott Stanley and wife Sheila of Vidalia, GA; eight grandchildren; Tyan and Taylan Abarr of Clearfield, Samantha and Claire Hendron of Eatontown, NJ and Jessie, Jodi, Marshall and Matthew Stanley of Vidalia, GA.

He is survived by 3 sisters: Phyllis Wood and husband Paul of Dallas, OR, Joan Freemyer and husband Wesley of Clearfield, Carol Lee Fisher and
husband Ray of Clearfield; 3 brothers, Cecil Abarr and wife, Lou of Savannah, GA, Richard Abarr and wife Sumi of Colorado Springs, CO, Larry Abarr and special friend Marilyn of Savannah, MO; his mother-in-law RoEmma Tull of Clearfield and a host of family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and brother-in-law Vernon Horton and Michael Freemyer, nephew.
