IVAN WILLIAM RAINEY
Ivan William Rainey was born June 7, 1920 on the family farm near Kellerton, Iowa to John McDown and Margaret Gilmore Rainey. He passed away on February 23, 1997 at the Decatur County Hospital. He attended the Kellerton school until he graduated in 1941. He then joined the Army where he served until 1945.
He was united in marriage to Betty Lois Terwilliger on April 3, 1942. They were blessed with three children David, Ron and Joyce.
Ivan was honored as a fifty-year member of the American Legion in 1995. He was very active as a board member for the Soil Conservation and ASCS offices.
Ivan was an outgoing and personable man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed playing a banjo in a country western band in his younger days and he loved to dance at every opportunity. He spent many hours hunting and fishing with is sons and grandchildren.
He spent his life on the family's Century Farm raising livestock and crops. He was well known for his love of animals, his enjoyment of a good story, and his friendliness.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lois; his children David (and wife Karen), Ron (and wife Suzanne), Joyce Madden (and husband Mike); and his grandchildren Lisa, Vickie, James Shawn, Cheryl, Troy, Kenneth, Tyler and Danny; twelve great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Kellerton, Iowa on March 1, 1997. Officiating were the Rev. Wendi Gillan and Joe DeBarthe.
Interment was in Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton. Military graveside rites by American Legion Post #676.
