Lloyd Louis Bedier was born June 27, 1943, on the farm at Sand Creek, northeast of Ellston, Iowa, to Grover Louis Bedier and Arvilla Ruth Zurmuehlen Bedier.

Lloyd was raised on the farm with his parents and sister Darlene. He attended Dixson Country School kindergarten through third grade, Ellston Schools fourth through eighth grade and completed high school at Grand Valley Schools in Kellerton with the class of 1962.

In 1962 Lloyd married Peggy Jean Baker at the Grand River Methodist Church. They resided on the Bedier farm, on Sand Creek. They enjoyed thirty nine years of marriage.

Lloyd continued to work the family farm through out his entire life. In addition to farming, he began driving a semi-truck for friends. For many years he owned and operated his own trucking business. Following his days of trucking he was honored to be elected Ringgold County Supervisor, a position he served for five and one half years.

Upon Lloyd and Peggy’s marriage, three children were born. Daughter Brenda Jean born in 1967, son Jeffrey Louis born in 1968, and daughter Kristene Kay born in 1973. These three children blessed them with five grandchildren.

Lloyd enjoyed living on the farm and all the graces of nature. He loved checking the crops and cows. He also enjoyed hunting with family and friends. His love of basketball began as a player and continued through watching his children.

As Lloyd’s health became more challenging his love for his grandchildren kept him strong. He enjoyed taking the children hunting, checking the cows and giving them tractor and four wheeler rides.

Lloyd was a very strong-willed person, always wanting to help family and friends. He enjoyed talking and listening to people. His sense of humor led him and others to many fond memories. Lloyd served the community as an active school board member and county supervisor. He served in the Army Reserves and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ellston Legion and Masonic Lodge.

Lloyd passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following complications with polycystic kidneys.

He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Bedier, and his mother, Arvilla Bedier.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Peggy, three children, five grandchildren, sister, and many extended family members and friends. Brenda Greenland and husband Gerry of Grand River, and their son Austin Michael. Jeff and his wife Michelle of Des Moines and their son Tanner Louis. Kristene Jarred and her husband Larry of Tingley and their children Ashley Kay, Levi Allyn, and Tyler Lloyd. Sister Darlene Reasoner of Ellston.

Lloyd was laid to rest in the Ellston Cemetery.

Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

[Lloyd was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.]
