OBITUARY - J. M. POLLOCK

James M. POLLOCK was born at Marysville, Ohio, Jan. 20, 1835, and died at his home in Tingley, Iowa, Nov. 28, 1909, aged 74 years, 10 months, and 8 days. At the age of 18 he left Ohio and went to Illinois, where he made his home until the breaking out of the Civil War, when he enlisted in Co. C. 36th regiment, Illinois veteran volunteers, where he served three years and three months. Then he returned to Illinois to his father's home.

He soon went to Ohio and was married Jan. 8, 1865, to Miss Elizabeth J. LEWIS. After his marriage, he with his wife returned to Mercer county, Ill., where he remained for six years as a tiller of the soil. From there he moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he settled on a farm near old Eugene, remaining there five years. From there he moved to a farm of his own one-half miles west of where Tingley now stands, there being no town or railroad at that time.

There he remained until a week before his death, when he moved to his residence in west Tingley. No children were born to this union, but two sons were adopted, F. L. and L. R. POLLOCK, of Cody, Wyo., who were both present at his home to help care for him in his last hours and comfort their mother in her sad bereavement. His health had been failing the last 18 months.

Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John J. GARDENIER. Interment in Tingley cemetery.

-Tingley Vindicator, December 2, 1909

Note: Le Roy POLLOCK, adopted son of James & Elizabeth POLLOCK, is the father of famed artists Jackson POLLOCK
