Died at Wirt, Iowa, April 4, 1889. Marmaduke Buck, aged 58 years, 10 months, and 25 days. The deceased was born in Gallatin County, Illinois, having moved to Wirt, Iowa, about 7 years ago. He has been a widower since 1869 yet through all that time had kept his family together. To Mr. and Mrs. Buck were born 6 children, three with the mother, sleep beneath the sod of the valleys of Illinois, and he, of the four members who came to Iowa, was the first to go to the silent city of the dead, there to await the sounding of the trump of God. Mr. Buck for more than 20 years, had been a sufferer caused by a cancer on his face. Of late years the pain at times was almost beyond endurance. About the 21st of March the pain became more intense, so much so, that he could not sleep. But soon erysipelas made its appearance on his left jaw spreading all over his face, head, neck and shoulders, which undoubtedly caused his death, which prevented the cancer in it tediousness eating his life. He was making all preparations to go and spend some weeks with relations, having sold his hardware stock, renting his buildings, and adjusting his business so he could leave. For many years he had been a Christian and had tried to be faithful to his Master. The funeral services were conducted at the house after which a large concourse of friends followed the remains to its last earthly resting place. The family has the sympathies of their many friends.
