Obituary
Harold Dene Akers age 55 of Kellerton, Iowa, the son of William Harold and Hilda Arbella [Baker] Akers, was born on September 1, 1951 in Leon, Iowa. He died suddenly at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Tuesday, December 26, 2006.

Harold went to school until his junior year in Leon, then the family moved and he graduated from Mormon Trail High School in 1971. He was working at a gas station in Osceola when he met his future wife, Kathleen Janiece Hancock. They were married on June 24, 1976 in Lamoni. They made their home in Kellerton. The couple had one son, Michael.

Over the years Harold worked at various jobs, including Industrial Hardfacing, Miracle Recreation, DEKKO, Woodlink, Smith Oil, and finally One Stop in Decatur before his retirement in 2005. In his free time Harold made woodcrafts and Kathy made crocheted items to sell at craft shows around the area. He also liked to camp, fish, and watch sports. But most important was being with his three grandsons, Zachary (9), Corey (6), and Isaac (4). Being a grandpa was very important to Harold. Both Harold and Kathy have spent as much time as possible the past 13 months with little Isaac since his illness and treatment of Neuroblastoma cancer.

Harold was a member of the Mt. Ayr Restoration Branch church. God and his church were very important to him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his in-laws Marvin and Maxine Hancock; and grand parents: Will and Anna Akers and John and Theda Baker.

Those surviving are his wife Kathy Akers of Kellerton; son Mike and wife Rachel of Cambridge, Iowa; grandsons Zachary, Corey and Isaac; sisters; Pam Delong and James of Davis City, Iowa; Debbie Cooper and Gene of Leon; and Penny Akers of Des Moines, Iowa, Iowa; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
