OBITUARY ~ ALAN CURTIS "CURT" JONES
August 20, 1941 ~ April 19, 2018

Alan Curtis Jones was born to William and Hazel (Hullinger) Jones on the family farm in rural Tingley on August 20, 1941. Welcoming him home were older siblings, Lloyd, Robert, David, Mary, Mildred and Margaret. Curt later helped welcome siblings, Lois Maxine, Kendrick, Gene and Martha. Curt passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 19, 2018.

Curt started country school north of the family home. He later attended Ellston Community School and graduated in 1959. Following high school Curt worked on the family farm milking Holstein cows until he joined the U. S. Army. He served our country from November 1963 until April 1965. He served as a company clerk. Curt was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Bragg and Seoul, Korea during Vietnam. Curt was very proud of his military service.

Curt married Sue Lantz at the Tingley Christian Church on May 27, 1967. To this union three children were born, Robin Lynn, Spence Alan and Lisa LaRae. Curt and Sue made their home in the Ellston area.

Curt spent most of his life as a welder and worked for several local farmers. He loved Minneapolis Moline tractors, fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. Curt always wanted to chat, play cards and never met a stranger. The Jones men are known for their long goodbyes. He loved to tease and could be called a bit ornery. Curt spent a lot of his spare time working in his garage or at Darlene’s Place. People would often stop by the garage to get something welded, or just visit. He never told anyone no. Curt cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish Curt’s memory is his wife, Sue, of 51 years; children Robin (Randy) McDonnell of Mount Ayr, Spence (Becky) Jones of Kellerton and Lisa (Justin) Cook of Diagonal; his grandchildren, Breanne (RJ) Hammond, Stephanie (Nolan) Newton, Tyler and Riley Jones, Bradyn and Nathan Cook; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Kinsley and Hendrix Newton, Johnathon and Baby Girl Hammond; Curt’s siblings Lloyd (Mary) Jones of Creston, David (Genora) Jones of New Virginia, Millie (Ron) Pittman of Florida, Marge (Jim) Thomas of Osceola, Max (John) McGilvery of Woodward; brothers-in-law Jean Collier of California, Bill (Sally Woollums) Lantz of Kellerton; sisters-in-law Jan (John) Gaukel of Massena, Kay (Jim) Best of Wisconsin, Bonnie French of Burlington; a host of nieces nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, William and Hazel Jones; siblings Gene Lee (in infancy), Martha, Robert, Kendrick and Mary Collier; parents-in-law Vernon and Vera Lantz; sister-in-law Verlea Lantz; brother-in-law Joseph French; nephew Joseph French II.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Ellston, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Jud Stover and Rev. Terry Roberts. Music was “Just Fishin”, “When I’m Gone” and “I’ll Fly Away”.

Honorary casket bearers were David Reed, Joey Noble, Ron Rauch, Jerry Cooper, Jim Phelps, Francis Shields, Bill Bucy, Kevin Greenland, Bryan Cook, Brad VanGelder and Randy McDonnell. His final resting place will be at the Ellston Cemetery in Ellston, Iowa.
