OBITUARY ~ LOIS (HOLTZMAN) JOHNSON
September 25, 1933 ~ October 02, 2018

Lois Johnson was born at home, in Ringgold County, IA, on September 25, 1933. She was one of 12 children born to Omer “Casey” and Jenny (Kinder) Holtzman. Lois grew up at Mount Ayr and she attended Mount Ayr High School.

On September 21, 1955, Lois married William “Bill” Johnson at Grant City, MO. Lois was a stay at home mom and house wife until her children had entered school. In the next several years, she worked at the Ringgold County Hospital, Clearview Homes, and at the Cap Factory. Lois and Bill also managed and operated the Clinton Motel in Mount Ayr for several years.

Lois always maintained a big garden and canned the produce. She hosted Christmas Eve at her home for many years. In addition, everyone was expected, and looked forward to, Sunday lunch at her home. If they missed, they had better have had a good excuse! Lois enjoyed her trips to visit Peggy at Detroit, MI. She loved the new technology and enjoyed Nintendo, her iPad and playing the games that were downloaded to it. She had fun on a trip to the casino and she loved bingo too.

Lois will be remembered for her good cooking including but not limited to; homemade beef and noodles, sticky cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter and corn flake cookies. Lois was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who would use tough love, but it was always in love. She was there for her kids and grand kids. She will always be the rock and the matriarch of her family.

Lois became a resident of Clearview Home in Mount Ayr and she passed away there on Friday, June 1, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill on September 9, 2000; son, Ricky Lynn Johnson; sons-in-law, Max Glendenning and David Conley; and her siblings, Dale Holtzman, Bob Holtzman, Elmer Holtzman, Irene Feuring, Bernice McCoy, Nina Powell, Donna Drake, Linda Sickels, and two in infancy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Janet Glendenning of Mount Ayr, IA, Peggy (Al) Rabin of Canton, MI, Kathy Conley of Mount Ayr, IA, Randy (Marla) Johnson of Mount Ayr, IA, Roger (Diann) Johnson of Leon, IA, and Howard (Diane) Johnson of Clarinda, IA; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Helen McGahuey of Wesley, IA; three brothers-in-law, Kenny Johnson of Mount Ayr, IA, Theron (Marilyn) Johnson of Delphos, IA, and Carroll (Beverly) Johnson of Urbandale, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lois was cremated and there will be a private graveside service in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is assisting the family and online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.
